This book, published in the original 2024 pen-year Emmanuel Todd I found it very interesting. I must say that the author - a French historian, anthropologist, demographer, sociologist and political scientist - almost 50 Years ago, he predicted the collapse of the Soviet Union, which he made based on demographic data. This work brought him wide fame and later he wrote quite in-depth books on the themes of the history of Europe, global political changes. In his latest book to date, he argues that the West is in decline due to internal contradictions, mistakes in international politics, and an inability to adapt to a changing world.

He justifies his views in 11 very interesting chapters that consider all the main participants in the current conflict, which stretches from 2022 years. And in the end, he gives his prediction of the development of events, which over the past year with the writing of the book quite accurately falls into reality.

1) Russian stability: Todd analyzes Russia’s internal resilience, highlighting its ability to adapt to external challenges. Despite sanctions and international pressure, the Russian economy and society have demonstrated stability and self-recovery. 2) The Ukrainian mystery: This chapter examines the complex and controversial aspects of the Ukrainian situation. The author examines the historical, cultural and political factors influencing the current crisis and highlights the role of external actors in the escalation of the conflict. I found it interesting to hear about the failed state. (failed state)After the collapse of the Soviet Union, it could not find itself. The analysis of the coming to power of the oligarchs and the division in principle of politicians on the 3 center: the western, eastern and central parts of Ukraine, each with its own political direction, and then the Maidan and everything that came after.

Continuation in next post.
