I studied a new one.State of DevOps 2026Perforce, which focused on the question of whether AI’s success in a value delivery system really determines whether the AI tools themselves or the maturity of the engineering system. This issue is driven by vendor-specificity, as Perforce is a Devops stack vendor, so the authors explored the relationship between the maturity of DevOps processes, the depth of AI adoption, the role of platform engineering and IDP, and the measurement gaps and economic effect of AI relative to cost. Well, the guys came to the logical conclusion that mature DevOps practices and processes are needed to scale AI.

The methodology looked like a survey. 820 Global IT decision-makers influence IT procurement, the choice of infrastructure and platform tools, and mission-critical applications. Given such a sample, this is more of a managerial view of the relationship between the maturity of DevOps practices and AI, rather than an engineering view. Interestingly, the authors filtered out managers who could not explain the term “Agentic AI” to their colleagues. And the authors determined the maturity of DevOps processes operationally: through the degree of delivery standardization, the quality of incident work, as well as the share of automation of depletions, the presence of automatic rollbacks. In general, the authors do not pretend to be representative and identify causal relationships, but give interesting descriptive statistics.

The study was based on four key questions.

  1. Does DevOps maturity affect AI success?
  2. What it takes for AI to scale between teams – local tools or centralized systems, IDP (interior platforms) and control planes?
  3. Are companies able to measure and audit AI, or do they “believe” it helps?
  4. Is there an economic effect and is cloud/compute costs eating it up? In fact, the report itself consists of four parts:)

In the next post, I will tell you more about the results of this survey.
