Got to the summer results. research Gergeli Orosha (Gergely Orosz)He is a well-known engineer and author of the popular newsletter “The Pragmatic Engineer”, one of the most influential sources of analytics in the field of technology. This survey was conducted among readers of the newsletter "The Pragmatic Engineer" in April-May 2025It was attended by 3k engineers. Respondents are mainly software engineers and from companies of all sizes. (start-up to bigtech)Half worked in small companies and half in large ones. It should be noted that the sample is not random, but based on subscribers of a technical blog, so it can shift towards product IT companies. For example, readers have a significantly higher share of AWS users and a lower share of Azure compared to traditional enterprise segments. Overall, the scope of the survey by roles and companies is very broad, which gives reason to trust the trends identified in the data.
Gergeli designed the results in three parts, each of which is devoted to certain categories of development tools. These are the three parts.

Among the key results are the following:
🤖 Widespread adoption of AI tools 85Percentage of engineers surveyed use at least one AI tool, such as a code assistant. One in two respondents uses GitHub Copilot – this AI assistant for programming has become the most popular tool in its class. Just about 4Percent of people do not use AI (for reasons of corporate prohibition, inefficiency or ethical beliefs)This highlights the massive penetration of these technologies into development.
🐍 Popular programming languages TypeScript came in first place in the frequency of use among development languages (expected, given its use in frontend and in backend). Python, JavaScript, Java, C# and other languages are also widely used, with all major language ecosystems evaluated positively by developers - no language received a significant outpouring of negative reviews. This speaks to the maturity of modern languages: frankly “bad” decisions simply do not become mass.
