I end with the book "The Battle for the Past" by discussing the last part of "The Past as Action." Previous posts can be read here: 1 and 2. In fact, in this part, the author talks about how Victory Day became a reference point for modern Russia - after all, the imperial past is far away, and the Soviet key date in the form of the Great October Socialist Revolution has already ceased to be relevant. All in all, this part is about how the past influences actions in our present:) Takes the story from Denis KaragodinAn ordinary graduate of Tomsk University decided to investigate the death of his grandfather, who was a victim of the NKVD’s Great Terror at the beginning. 1938 years. A similar story exists in the United States, where 120k Japanese were relocated from the Pacific to the inner states. Next, the author examines the story with the reenactors and how popular it is to play Nazis in the United States, where the Republican candidate for members of Congress in the United States 2010 They were captured in the form of the SS Viking Division. Interestingly, he participated in the reconstructions of battles and the SS Viking uniform he and his group chose because this division fought on the eastern front against the Soviet army, not against the British or Americans. In fact, in the United States, the memory of the victory in World War II can be described by a quote from Trumpp on Twitter. 2020 The year it was written that "8 May 1945 America and Britain defeated the Nazis, where the Soviet Union is not even mentioned:) In general, the United States usually reconstructs the times of its civil war. And in Russia, the reconstruction movement is now patronized by the Ministry of Defense, which holds large-scale events of military-historical clubs in its Patriot Park. Well, the last chapter of this part is devoted to the movement "Immortal Regiment", which appeared thanks to several active journalists, and then found itself under the wing of the government. This movement proved to be a good way to make the memory of veterans live longer than they themselves, since their number at the Victory Parades. 9 In May, everything was reduced. As a result, in the second part of the title of this chapter, the author makes a rhetorical question "To whom belongs the memory of the war."

The author concludes the book with this paragraph.

Disputes about the past will not disappear, because they are caused by the present. History only provides the material and language for contemporary political conflict. It is possible, however, to agree on the boundaries of "historic" conflicts, as it is agreed on the non-use of certain methods of language and specific words in diplomatic dialogue. The multiplicity of the past is with us forever. And learn to live with her.
