3 AImigo S1E1: Where We Are Now with AI in Software Development (Category AI4SDLC)

On Friday, August 14, at 12:00 Moscow time, we will go live with the first episode of the 3 AImigo podcast. We will begin with a baseline: where AI development stands today, what has already become standard practice, and what still lives in strong experiments and impressive demonstrations. Three of us will discuss it: Evgeny Sergeev, Alexey Litvinov, and me. We bring different perspectives: managing a large engineering organization, implementing AI-Assisted Engineering in practice, and the architecture of AI4SDLC. We will not look for one “correct” picture; we will compare our views.

The phrase “we use AI in development” can mean IDE autocomplete, a conversation with an assistant, an agent that delivers a pull request, or an almost autonomous loop. That is why arguments about AI's impact often turn out to be arguments about different processes and levels of responsibility.

In the first episode, we will try to map this landscape:

  • What can already be considered a baseline practice for an individual engineer;
  • Which scenarios are becoming a team process rather than a personal trick;
  • Where coding assistance ends and agentic development begins;
  • What the model needs around it: context, specifications, tests, quality checks (evals), access permissions, and observability;
  • Which ideas - long-lived agents, multi-agent processes, and autonomous system support - still remain on the horizon.

We will also discuss where the bottleneck moves. When code becomes cheaper to produce, more time goes into task definition, verification, architecture, and fixing consequences. Local acceleration for a developer does not yet accelerate the whole engineering system.

For us, this will be a “baseline snapshot”: a shared map we can revisit in future episodes to check what has actually changed. There will be no tool ranking or promises of full autonomy, but there will be practical examples, disagreements, and questions for which the industry still has no final answer.
