A Brief Outlook of Enterprise Architecture Role in the Digital Age (Category Architecture)

When I picked up research papers from big tech companies, I thought most of the whitepaper was interesting. But then I decided to look for materials about enterprise architecture in the ACM Digital Library and found a... The feeling of reading them is sad. Specifically in this article 2022 from Ahmed of Egypt (Ahmed S. Elsheikh) Everything is quite clumsy and somewhat mechanical, but let me tell you the details below.

  1. Since the 1980s, corporate architecture has existed as a separate discipline that helped to combat complexity.
  2. But since the 2010s, a separate wave of digital transformation has emerged. (digital transformation)This led to a wave of disruptive innovation and the business and technological landscape changed forever.)
  3. The author decided to explore how these two waves are interconnected through research articles on the topic of digital enterprise architecture.
  4. First, the author tells about the Holy Trinity: Enterprise architecture> TOGAF => Archimate, where corporate architecture is a near-scientific discipline, TOGAF is a framework, and Archimate is a framework for modeling architecture. Application portfolio management strategy, capability architecture and capability-based planning
  5. But the question arises as to how to apply all this good with digitalization, digital transformation and other stories about transformers and transformations:)
  6. Googled “digital enterprise architecture” in ClavirateWeb of scienceand found 55 articles
  7. Next, the author took the basic statistics on the year of release, the authors, the number of citations and built graphs - the article without graphs is not very scientific. The graphs show that with 2015 The year was not a one-time publication, but a joint, where 2017 year was peak 10 publications, further a slight subsidence and in 2021 The year was a new record. 14 publications. From this stat, it is clear that researchers of corporate architecture immediately picked up the trend of digital transformation:)
  8. Next, the author broke these 55 articles 3 groups, highlighting the cut-off by the number of references to the publication n (number of quotations)
  9. It worked. 3 groups: The mutual impact of corporate architecture as a separate discipline and digital transformation as a separate wave of disruptive technologies and business needs at the same time How corporate architecture as a distinct discipline can help and support corporations that are digital and global at the same time How Corporate Architecture as a Discipline Can Help and Support Digital Transformation in Different Contexts and Sectors
  10. The author briefly in one line characterizes each article from these groups. (~~thorough study of the material~~)
  11. Finally, the author formulates directions for research something like this. Connections between global digital corporations and specific transformations, such as corporate architecture, may differ across industries Some logical areas are missing. (The three categories above do not cover all scenarios.) How do corporate architectures differ when disruptive technologies are at the heart of digital transformation? (The author makes a reference to the blockchain and Bigdata - a little bit rotten now seem proposed by the author disruptive technologies) How frameworks for corporate architecture and frameworks for digital transformation (like that ~~game~~ thing)

The book ends with the conclusion that the author reviewed the literature and even made recommendations for new research.

P.S. And I thought I'd rather read another scientific article from Google:)
