18 September 2025 Atlassian Officially announced Acquisition of the DX Platform (Developer Experience) about $1 Billions in cash and Atlassian shares (largest acquisition in Atlassian history). DX is an engineering analytics platform that allows organizations to measure the productivity of development teams and identify bottlenecks in their processes. I am interested in this acquisition because among the creators of DX there are authors of approaches. DORA, SPACE, DevExWhich I've talked about a lot.
Atlassian’s management explains the acquisition of DX as a strategic desire to help its customers make better use of AI investments and improve the work of engineering teams. The company notes that more enterprises are investing in artificial intelligence tools, but are faced with the question of whether these investments bring real returns in accelerating development. An additional justification for the transaction was the synergistic effect: about 90Percent of DX customers use Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, etc.)This made DX an obvious candidate to join. Atlassian plans to deeply integrate DX into its ecosystem. DX data will be directly available in Atlassian products, and DX will continue to support integrations with third-party tools so customers can benefit from DX regardless of the Atlassian stack.
