Citizen Developer

Over the weekend, I was doing self-learning using information from PMI and came across information about Citizen Developer that I decided to share with readers. And start with a definition that can be found on Gartner A citizen developer is an employee who creates application capabilities for consumption by themselves or others, using tools that are not actively forbidden by IT or business units. A citizen developer is a persona, not a title or targeted role. They report to a business unit or function other than IT. All citizen developers are business technologists. However, all business technologists are not necessarily citizen developers. There is no required designation of proficiency or time allocation for citizen developers but they must be legal employees of an organization.

If you translate from the lofty language of techno-marketing specialists Gartner into Russian obscene, then under the term citizen developer, which I translated as a citizen developer, there is a person who can whisper something on the no-code/low-code platform to meet the needs of business. So rejoice with users of Tilda, Bubble, Camunda analysts and other guys who know how to use UI – now it is enough to be able to poke buttons in your favorite no-code solution to enter the IT as a developer, albeit with the clarification of citizen.

In short, the democratization of development is happening right before our eyes ... and starts with the hanging of names that blur the boundaries of the profession.
