The main topics of the issue were: What is an AI product and how does it differ from a regular digital product? Why a beautiful AI demo doesn’t mean the product can be scaled. How do you know if you need AI or a simpler heuristic? What metrics to look for in AI products: cost saving, resales, user effort, evals and model quality. Why in a large company the main problem is not to build a prototype, but to achieve quality at scale.

• How gates, OKR and the "venture" logic of product portfolio management work. Why is it important for a leader in AI to be alert, be quick to whirlwind and be able to close projects without sunk cost fallacy? How to structure R&D so it doesn’t turn into chaos Why FOMO in AI is now largely justified What will happen to product teams, middle management, and the boundaries between roles in the AI-native development world?

It was interesting about the future of the teams. Daniel believes that product roles will be increasingly collapsing: Products will have a deeper understanding of development, analytics and ML, and engineers in business, product and distribution. Teams will become smaller, stronger and flatter, and the value of “just managing” without strong hard skills will decline.

The finalists discussed overrated and underrated AI trends, assistants, automation of supply in different industries, Lovable, Cursor, moat in AI products, the role of domain knowledge, network, distribution and speed.

In general, I think this is a good release for products, engineers, teammates, EM, executives and anyone trying to understand how to make not just AI demos, but real AI products.
