"Children of the Sun" in the theater-scene "Melnikov" (Category Culture)

Last week I was on the preview of this play in the production of the young director Lisa Doronicheva on stage. Theatre - "Melnikov" scenes. The play is based on a play by Maxim Gorky, who wrote it. 120 Just after the events of Bloody Sunday. I am not a great expert on theater, but I can say that I liked the production, especially the first act, in which we get acquainted with the life of the scientist Pavel Protasov, a representative of the intelligentsia, who is completely immersed in his research and pays little attention to what is happening around. We see Paul’s idealism and striving for progress, but this has little to do with real life and the problems of others, of which there are many in the play: unrequited love, family conflicts and social contradictions, as well as an epidemic of cholera. The characters of the play face loneliness and the inability to find a common language both among themselves and with the abstract people. The second act unfolds the main ideas of the play, so it turns out heavy and we see The gap between the intelligentsia and the people: we see a chasm between the educated elite, who dream of a bright future, and ordinary people living in poverty and ignorance. Idealism and reality: heroes strive for a high ideal, but isolation from real life leads to tragedy Social inequality: We see a gap between Paul and his servants, which exacerbates misunderstanding and leads to social contradictions. n

• Love and loneliness: The characters’ personal relationships reflect their internal conflicts and inability to understand each other. Criticism of Utopian Ideas: At the end of the play, we see Utopian ideals falling apart from contact with the real world.

Interestingly, the title “Children of the Sun” symbolizes the heroes’ desire for knowledge and progress, but also indicates their isolation from reality. The sun becomes a metaphor for the illusory light that blinds the characters, preventing them from seeing the world around them. In the production itself, this sunlight plays a key role - it shines through a beautiful window, sometimes burning brightly, sometimes through the rain, and at the beginning of the second act it is simply not with us, which shows that hard days have come.

Separately, I note that the production is performed in such a way that we are, in fact, timeless and if you do not know the history of writing the play, then you will never believe it. 120 years:)
