Disciplined Agile® from PMI
Already. 6 I have been a certified PMI Project Manager for years. (Project Management Institute) And I revisit their courses and training materials periodically to extend my status by earning the right amount of PDU. This time during training, I came across a lot of materials on agile approaches under the banner of Disciplined Agile® and I was interested.
- what is it?
- Where did he come from?
- how useful it is. How undisciplined are the standard agile approaches:)
In fact, it is worth starting with what it is and the answer we can find at the very beginning of the page with introduction of this kind of agile processes: Disciplined Agile (DA) is an agnostic, hybrid tool kit that harnesses hundreds of Agile, Lean, and traditional strategies to guide you to the best way of working (WoW) for your team or organization.
I wondered where it came from and found the official History and development of this approach
- In 2012 Disciplined Agile was created by Scott Ambler and Mark Lines.
- In 2019 PMI acquires Disciplined Agile Next, PMI actively began to integrate agile approaches into its project management materials in the form of disciplined agile.
Now let's take a look at some interesting DA moments. This is not a framework, but a toolkit for creating processes for yourself, the authors call it the Way of Working. (I immediately remembered RUP with its deep tuning.)
- This approach has 4 individual areas: mindset (How to Set the Basics of Lean and Agile in a Corporate Environment), people (roles, responsibility, team structure), flow (processes), practices (To get your team moving towards the goal) DA Mindset is based on three whales: Principles (business agility), promises (agreements with all stakeholders), guidelines (Guidelines for improving WoW) DA then fits into a corporation, which of course is Disciplined Agile Enterprise, in which business functions are called process blades. (For each approach, it is important to come up with a language:))
- and all this DA enterprise relies on foundation (mindset, people, agile, lean, serial, WoW) DevOps is behind the base, but not simple but disciplined. The concept of value streams is introduced on top of it, and DAE is built on top. (Disciplined Agile Enterprise) Next, the authors recall the freedom of choice and present an interesting handbookThis will allow you to customize WoW For customization and continuous improvement, the authors introduce the concept of guided continuous improvement. (GCI)Personal improvement, team improvement, multi-team improvement, value stream improvement, organizational improvement
In general, while studying the basics of Disciplined Agile, I caught such a sense of deja vu that I went to study the history of the approach that I wrote about at the beginning of the post. After that, it became clear that PMI had to add a bit of flexibility to its portfolio of management approaches, and they did so in a rather clumsy way:)
