Gene through the eyes of an engineer. Tasting the architecture of London (Category Culture)

Wednesday was with a friend on this. event From the series "Moscow through the eyes of an engineer", which I liked the format - we listened to a story about architecture and drank alcohol, or rather gin:) We talked about industrial architecture, London docks, train stations, power plants, all this powerful industrial beauty that is usually ignored when people talk about "aesthetics." But now, when industrial facilities lose their original importance, their reconstruction allows you to move away from the utilitarian function and turn it into beautiful lofts suitable for living or doing business. Interestingly, our guide in this alcoholic-architectural trip easily drew parallels between London and Moscow and showed how similar evolutionary processes were, however, Moscow was late all the way - when we abolished serfdom in London there was already an underground subway and a tunnel under the Thames:) It is interesting to explain why this story accompanies gin and not conventional rum. Gin was originally the drink of workers, sailors and engineers, and its history is closely intertwined with the industrial development of London.

Anyway, I liked the trip - listened to a lecture on an interesting topic and drank a gin. Gintl.
