Movies like Moneyball and Minority Report

These two films were mentioned in the book Data Science. told yesterday. And the mentions were in diametrically opposite tone. The first film, Moneyball or The Man Who Changed Everything, shows what a successful data science project might look like. In it, the visionary manager tries to make the outsiders champions. He lacks the budget to buy cool players, so he comes up with a way to evaluate players more accurately and further finds underrated players from whom he makes a near-championship team. In this film, in addition to data science, you can also look at how group dynamics and a good coach work:) The second film, Minority Report, shows a future in which there is predictive crime prediction. As a result, the police move from reactive work with crimes to proactive. The system is becoming more widespread and seems perfect. But at some point, the head of the criminal department becomes the suspect. And then we see a self-fulfilling prophecy unfold. Data Science raises these questions about how predicting ml algorithms leads to their implementation. And there are also examples of predicting crime-ridden areas where more police officers are sent to duty, as well as potential suspects who are also more often arrested:) By the way, the film "Minority opinion" is based on the work of Philip Kindred Dick, about whom I am told A little earlier and with an impressive list of adaptations.
