Gartner 2024 Hype Cycle for Emerging Technologies (Category Management)
I recently came across a picture from the report.Gartner Hype Cycle™ for Emerging Technologieswhich came out last summer. While it’s mostly Gartner marketing as a setter trend in technology, it’s often fun to look at the report and see what’s in it other than a beautiful picture. Specifically, this report lists 25 Breakthrough technologies grouped into the most hype topics of Autonomous AI (autonomous AI), Developer Productivity (developer productivity), Total Experience (generality), and Human-Centric Security and Privacy (human-centred security and confidentiality). These topics will shape the future of business and technology in the coming years, according to Gartner.
1. Autonomous AI (autonomous AI) The focus here is on the development of AI systems capable of performing tasks with minimal human involvement. This theme includes technologies such as multi-agent systems, reinforcement learning, humanoid robots and machine customers. For businesses, this means moving to AI systems that can dynamically interact with the environment and make decisions in complex scenarios.
2. Developer Productivity (developer productivity) It combines tools and approaches to improve the effectiveness of developers. Core technologies: AI to support software development, GitOps, prompt engineering and internal portals for developers. The goal is to create conditions for a “flow” in the work of developers, improving their satisfaction, cooperation and quality of results. I’ve written a lot on the channel, for example. How and Why to Measure Engineering Productivity in a Large Company"
3. Total Experience (generality) This item integrates customer experience strategies (CX)staff experience (EX), user experience (UX) and multichannel interaction (MX). Here, the authors talk about technologies such as digital twins of clients, spatial computing, super applications and 6G. The goal here is to ensure seamless interaction at all points of contact to increase satisfaction, loyalty and engagement.
4. Human-Centric Security and Privacy (human-centred security and confidentiality) This theme aims to build trust through security measures that take into account user experience and shared risk management. Specific technologies: AI TRISM (Management of trust, risk and security of AI)Digital Immune Systems and Network Security Architecture. It encourages transparency, ethics and proactive threat detection to enhance the resilience of organizations.
These topics reflect a strategic approach to using new technologies to transform businesses while addressing challenges such as over-automation, data privacy concerns, and the need for an ethical framework.
