This interesting book by Trevor Moawad, a mentor to world-class athletes, offers an interesting approach to managing your mental state and making quality decisions. In the English title of the book, the main idea is put into the title "Getting to neutral" - the author proposes the concept of neutral thinking, which is located between positive thinking and negative thinking. Positive thinking is about thinking that everything will be fine in one way or another, and negative thinking involves considering everything that happens from the side of negative factors and risks. The author suggests a balanced and rational view of the situation and challenges that we need to overcome. It's funny that it took a different name for it -- I've been practicing this way of looking at the world for a long time. 30 years. It is strange that the MYTH gave the book an alternative title when translating "The Main Rule of Thinking" - this misleads readers, since the author never mentions any rule of thinking in the book, but gives several concepts that he recommends to follow.

**- Neutral thinking (neutrality)**This mindset helps people stay calm and objective in high pressure conditions. Instead of being overly optimistic or pessimistic, such thinking allows you to evaluate the circumstances and options available and make quality decisions. **- Power of words (word-word)**Trevor notes that spoken words have an order of magnitude more influence than thoughts. Negative words have more influence than neutral or positive ones. For example, Trevor calls the disease he was battling while writing the book “the r-word.” (And only once does he say it's cancer, describing the first time he was diagnosed.) **- Behavior over words (speech)**Actions mean more than thoughts or words. Trevor notes the importance of focusing on desired behaviors that bring us closer to our desired goals. **- Behavior over emotion (behavior)**Success is related to consistent behavior more than to fluctuations in emotions. Neutral thinking focuses on actions that bring you closer to success rather than following emotional peaks and downturns. **- Eliminating negativity (negativity)**The author recommends that readers identify and address the impact of negativity on their lives, including reading news and social media. **- Adversity tolerance (resilience)**Neutrality helps people develop resilience by moving away from past failures or successes and focusing on what can be controlled in the present moment. **- Value-based decision making (value-based decision-making)**Trevor encourages alignment of actions with core values to maintain mental balance, even in a stressful situation.

Trevor Moavad never beat cancer, but he wrote the book in which he shared his psychological training secrets with elite athletes, military and corporate leaders. He has received awards for his innovative methods of optimizing performance under pressure, but the most important thing is the recognition of his contribution to the success of his customers. For example, the afterword was written by NFL quarterback Russell Wilson, with whom he first worked on motivation, and then Russell helped Trevor during his treatment. Trevor’s book offers a pragmatic alternative to traditional paradigms of positive thinking. By adopting a neutral mindset, people can better navigate the complexities of life with clarity and resilience.

P.S. Interestingly, these principles work well in large companies – for example, it is important to look not at the words, but at the actions of top management, to understand what values the company really has.
