This graphic biography of the great artist was created by Otto Gabos, who tried to tell us about the dramatic path of the artist to a new era in art, paying special attention to the psychology and personality of Gustav. Gustav lived and worked in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and died just a few months before its fall in the First World War. The book itself is built as a journey of a dying artist to the corners of his memory, in which we accompany him.

As a result, the book is divided into the following parts:

  • Spring sacred The early life of the artist and his relationship with his family and brother Ernest, with whom they painted paintings, but who died early.
  • Secession - joining the exhibition organization and several groups of young German and Austrian artists who 1892 In protest against the official academic art left the Munich exhibition organization “Crystal Palace”
  • Vienna A story about Emilia Flöge, a friend of Gustav, who played a significant role in Klimt’s life as a fashion designer, creating fashion masterpieces. Emilia was a real muse for the artist. Plus here we are talking about a lot of children Gustav, which he had from different models, they were recruited for several football teams.
  • Attersee A story about the artist’s studio, which is now available to visit in Vienna. Of course, the currently available workshop is a two-storey remodel. Klimt himself lived and worked in a one-story building, buried in the greenery of the garden, where there were always many models without excess clothing:) In the same part, we see the end of Klimt's life.
  • atelier In this part, Otto Gabos talks about the behind-the-scenes creation of this book. He thought to tell about Klimt through the lips of his models, but it turned out that they were pulling the focus from the artist to themselves. Further, Otto abandoned the biography in the style of novels and minimized the description of historical events, so in the book we travel through time arbitrarily. Nor did Otto focus on Klimt’s relationship with his family, his mother and sister, although the presence of women played a central role in Klimt’s life. The book remained focused on Emilia Flöge because of her importance.

After reading the book, I became interested in the artist and found it on ArtsAndCulture.Google.com. pageYou can see his work, including his most expensive painting.Adele Bloch-Bauer I“, which was sold in 2006 record-breaking year 135 million dollars.
