In April, I wrote about the first collection, "The How to be British Collection" — a humorous book about how to be British. Now it is time for the second, again by Martyn Ford and Peter Legon. Judging by these selected pages, there is still work to do before earning the honorary title of Briton :)

We can start with the structure of the brain. In the illustration, there is room for tea, beer, nostalgia, and a store of useless facts for the pub quiz. But you are invited to look for the area responsible for learning foreign languages with the naked eye, without much hope of success. Recognizing the royal family, on the other hand, has a dedicated center. Priorities have been set.

Next comes food. After a full English breakfast, the authors advise going back to bed and sleeping until lunch. In the adjacent photo, however, brunch and elevenses also sit between breakfast and lunch. The flaw in the plan is immediately apparent: you could sleep through two meals.

The railways have been turned into a board game called De-Railed: a flooded tunnel, the wrong platform announced, a snowflake on the track — go back to the start. But the best part is the starting condition itself: roll a seven on the ordinary die shown in the picture. It seems the journey is already going wrong.

There is also a lesson on prepositions with an entire love story: from climbing up to a balcony to an unsuccessful return. Now these are people to learn from when writing textbook examples — the plot reaches its end while you are still figuring out up, on, and out.

But the most practical lesson is how to accept compliments. Someone praised your house? Whatever you do, do not agree that it is wonderful: they will think you are smug. Explain that you overpaid, everything is falling apart, and the neighbors are strange. Instantly, you are a nice, modest person.

So I am attaching the photos, but let me point out in advance: the lighting is poor, the pages are crooked, and the keyboard is creeping into the frame. We can consider the lesson in self-deprecation complete :)
