Naming inflation C O (Humor column)
Naming inflation C*O (Rubric #Humor)
Over the past few years, I’ve seen headline inflation in different companies in a similar scenario.
- Once the nameplate CTO spoke about belonging to top management and such a person was in the company alone. The others were called Directors, VPs and so on.
- Then in large companies with a bunch of product verticals, the CTO nameplate somehow smoothly floated towards the technical managers of these verticals and the CTO in the companies became dozens. There is a certain logic in this - such verticals were often the size of more than a thousand people, but the worm of doubt was already beginning to creep in.
- Further, it turned out that in such large verticals there are individual products often on the 100+ people – and their leaders also became CTOs – this led to a further increase in the number of CTOs and name inflation.
- And today, I saw a candidate from another colored bank that CTO wrote on his resume, answering roughly the same question. 10 Humans, i.e. the teamlids already call themselves CTOs.
- Vanguyu, that further engineers, rising to the level of Senior, will begin to call themselves CTO. Although the wait is already happening in different banks, from where the executive director comes to you for an interview, who performed the instructions of the tasks from Jira alone. I call these CTOs "my own CTO", recalling the program "My own director".
In general, I recommend that you stop paying attention to the name of the position and focus on the area of responsibility of the person:)
P.S. I am not in the CTO category:)
