Interview with Maxim Evdokimov about modern CPO, cool products and complex solutions (Category Management)
I watched with great interest. interview with Maxim Evdokimov, a former colleague who was once a CPO in T-Bank, a CPO in hh.ru, a big director in Sber, CEO of Okko, and now holds the position of CPMO (Chief Product and Marketing Officer) Bir Bank, the largest retail bank in Azerbaijan. Below are the highlights of the interview from my point of view.
1. Starting a career and experience in telecom Maxim told about his first earnings as a janitor in school years. He started working professionally in 1995 During the year in a trading company, there was enough knowledge of English and computer. Later, in 2001 He joined the Finnish company Sonera, which was the beginning of his career in telecom. According to Maxim, the telecom company in the beginning 2000They were the main drivers of the development of digital technologies, although many modern terms and frameworks did not yet exist. Working at MegaFon has taught him to focus on the customer and his needs, and to shape the user’s need, rather than simply responding to existing requests. It is interesting that now the TV company is more conservative:) 2. Experience at Tinkoff Bank Tinkoff Bank. (now T-Bank) Maxim came in 2013 year 12 years in telecom. His first project was Tinkoff Wallet, a mobile wallet with a phone number that launched in December. 2013 years. Due to regulatory changes, the project had to be transformed, and Maxim moved to managing the client part of the bank’s mobile platform. One of the significant achievements of Maxim in Tinkoff was the introduction of the concept of lifestyle banking and the launch of storis in the banking application. Tinkoff became the first bank in the European market to use the storis format for personalized offers to customers. 3. Product approach and management Maxim shared his vision of the product approach, which he calls “product management from Evdokimov”. Its key principle: it is better to make a product on the "solid four" and then bring it to the "five" than to release a "three with a minus" and never return to it. He opposes the use of the term MVP. (Minimum Viable Product) I prefer the concept of MLP. (Minimum Lovable Product) A limited but very good product. In his opinion, it is unacceptable for a large company to make low-quality products, as this creates reputational and competitive risks. 4. Current role at Bir Bank At Bir Bank, Maxim is responsible for products and marketing. He outlined two main challenges in his current role: Building efficient product processes as the bank experiences a “growth sickness” Development of the ecosystem agenda so that the bank’s clients can see the value proposition from other ecosystem assets According to Evdokimov, fintech and banking in Azerbaijan lag behind the Russian market by about a half. 5-7 But in some aspects, like digital government and the link between business and government, some things are even better. 5. Key findings and ideas Maxim emphasizes the importance of "ownership" (ownership) in food teams. The ideal team is like-minded people, where everyone is responsible for the entire product, not just their area of responsibility. He believes that the organization needs to develop a culture of trust and responsibility so that people can take initiative. The reasons for the failure of the product approach often lie in the minds of management, including shareholders. Different management leaders are needed for different stages of an organization’s development, and it is important to make decisions on changing leadership in time.
In general, the podcast turned out quite interesting:)
