Awareness of Android Development Teams: Devcrowd’s 2022 Survey

I read this report, based on responses from 660 developers collected between July 14 and August 11.

Looking at Tinkoff’s results, we have climbed substantially in the rankings, gaining about 10 percentage points on average across the important criteria. We reached first place on some measures, including the most attractive teams, and second on others, such as interesting tasks and projects and the strongest developers.

Here are the detailed figures. Numbers in parentheses show the change from 2021.

Respondents

  • Seniority: junior 15%, middle 38%, senior 33%, team lead 14%.
  • 3/4 have a university education; 2/3 work in large teams with more than 10 developers.
  • 92% are men and 8% are women.
  • Respondents from major teams: Tinkoff 47, Ozon 29, Yandex 25, Avito 23.

Where they get information

  • Best-known channels: Android Broadcast 84% (+27%), Podlodka podcast 49% (+7%).
  • Top events: Podlodka Android Crew 58% (+32%), Mobius 55% (+22%).
  • Experts they follow: Kirill Rozov 84%, Alexey Gladkov 41%.

Cross-platform development

  • 60% have tried KMM (Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile); 87% plan to try it.
  • 56% have tried Flutter; 27% plan to try it.

Job searches

  • Not planning to change jobs: 46%.
  • Considering offers without actively searching: 43%.
  • Actively interviewing: 9%.
  • Reasons to change jobs: relocation 40%, professional growth 26%, higher pay 20%.

Choosing a company

  • Criteria for an attractive team: interesting tasks 75%, strong colleagues 73%, a great product 66%, salary and bonuses 55%.
  • Most appealing fields: banking and fintech 50%, developer tools 42%, delivery and food 40%.
  • Most attractive teams: Tinkoff 36% (+4%), Yandex 35% (−6%), Avito 33% (−3%).
  • Visibility of company activities: Avito 68% (+5%), Yandex 65% (+9%), Tinkoff 57% (+13%).
  • Interesting company talks: Avito 41% (+0%), Yandex 41% (+2%), Tinkoff 32% (+10%).
  • Interesting tasks and projects: Yandex 43% (−5%), Tinkoff 40% (+6%), Avito 26% (+7%).
  • Strongest developers: Yandex 57% (+1%), Tinkoff 52% (+19%), Avito 44% (+2%).
