Today I decided to continue the theme of presentations and discuss the book "Ready to speak". Presentation designer by Radislav Gandapas, which I have read for years 8 back:) This book consists of three parts.

  1. Presentation today
  2. Structure of presentation
  3. How to make a presentation more effective

According to the author, public speeches are divided into three genres.

  1. Motivating speeches (publicity) The goal is for the audience to do what the speaker wants.
  2. Ritual speeches (Toast, congratulations.) The goal is to emotionally stir up the audience.
  3. Speeches informing (lectures) Purpose to communicate new information

Moreover, the author convinces readers that in the business of presentations belong to the genre of encouraging, since the speaker usually wants something from the audience. Even if initially he thinks that just informs her about something and in the long run, the information learned will somehow affect the behavior of listeners in relation to the subject of the presentation. There are no good presentations without a goal:)

Radislav gives a recipe for preparing for the presentation 0) Roman Holiday is a subtle self-adjustment in which a future performance is compared to a holiday in Rome

  1. Questions of life and death - Who will be in the room? What do I want from them? What am I supposed to do?
  2. The structure of the presentation is better done in accordance with the laws of composition and dramaturgy.
  3. Rehearsal - without training there is no success
  4. Fixation - slides as a way to fix the canvas of the story
  5. Correction - demo runs in front of people in conditions close to "combat"
  6. Deserved rest - the day before the performance should take a pause and rest

And then the book gives algorithms on how to structure the presentation and how to work with the audience during the performance:) In general, the book is interesting and worth reading to improve your presentation skills.

P.S. It is sad that the author then left the field of public speaking in business coaching and then his authority in my eyes went downhill.
