Kamil Sees with His Hands (Category #ForKids)

I’m reading this book to my five-year-old son Kirill at bedtime, and I like it. It’s written in a light, humorous style and gives us something to think about and discuss together. The book is about five-year-old Kamil, his six-year-old sister, and their mom and dad. Everything seems ordinary, except that Kamil is blind—but that doesn’t stop him from learning and playing, running and riding a bike, joking and having fun. Each story is a little episode from Kamil’s life, and we see how his dad, mom and sister love him. It is that love that lets him grow up without feeling sorry for himself. But not everyone around him treats him that way, and we see how being treated differently can sometimes get in the way. That’s why the title comes from a story about visiting a museum: Kamil saw the exhibits in his own way—with his hands.
All in all, it’s a very good book. I recommend it.
