A CTO's first 90 days begin before the first day on the job—Management 360 (#Management)
There is a strange tradition in tech: first you get a new role, and only then do you start figuring out what job you actually agreed to do. For a CTO, that is a particularly expensive way to discover the role. So on 3 September at 19:35, I will speak at Stratoplan's Management 360 about a CTO's first 90 days. I will begin with a small inversion: the first day on the job is already the midpoint of the transition.
In the talk, I will cover the entire journey:
- How to choose the problem, not the impressive title;
- Why you should agree on authority, resources, and success criteria before you start;
- Why it is better to spend the first month building an accurate map of the company than assembling a portfolio of changes;
- How, by day 90, to choose one or two systemic bets, show an initial result, and avoid missing red flags.
This is not a universal checklist for “guaranteed success,” but a practical model: research → mutual contract → diagnosis → first changes. One more point: the company is also on probation during those three months.
Management 360 runs online on 1–4 September, every day from 18:00 to 21:00 GMT+3. Four days cover four management roles: team lead, head of department, CTO, and COO.
