The hot ice experience (Category Kids)

This morning, the kids did a simple experience with hot ice that freezes at room temperature. We have a whole box of different experiences, but this particular experience was chosen by Kirill, our youngest son of four, who likes the color blue, and the experience box was just blue. The experience was very simple:

• We should have made a solution of sodium acetate in hot water. I should have put it in the fridge. After a while, the solution must be removed from the refrigerator and begin the experiment. The first experiment involves the addition of crystals of sodium acetate in a supersaturated solution, which leads to an accelerated transformation of the solution in the glass into ice. Next, this solution can be heated again, and then cooled and try to pour the solution into a petri bowl, where a wooden snowflake is placed. In this case, the freezing process looks a little bit like a drgooma. There is also a syringe in the experience, with which you can make something like a freezing slide. (We've got this part going so well.)

In general, four-year-old Kirill liked the experiments, but nine-year-old Maxim quickly became bored - he only asked what happened, but after half the experiment stopped participating in it.

P.S. Interestingly, a similar composition of sodium acetate is used in salt heating pads, which were previously used to heat the legs in winter:)
