A year ago I read Paul Offit’s book Pandora’s Box. Seven stories about how science can be harmful. An instructive reading that shows how often good intentions paved the way, if not to hell itself, then somewhere in that direction:) And often it was all about data - decisions were often made without deep research, on the wavelength, as Hype would now say:) The book contains seven stories about scientific discoveries with a double bottom and examines how their widespread adoption influenced what is happening mainly in the United States. The book ends with a final chapter that draws a line and helps draw lessons from these stories.
