Recruitment processes in large companies and types of interviews in T-Bank (Category Management)

There are different approaches to hiring people in a company. If the company is small, then it is customary to recruit candidates directly to the team. This is usually done by the hiring manager himself, perhaps with the help of engaged colleagues. He asks specific questions that will be helpful when working on a particular team. But if the company is large, then to scale and align employees within the organization, the approach to hiring changes to hiring in the company, not the team. Multi-stage interviews appear here, where one’s competence is checked at each stage. Each stage is conducted by a new employee, and at the end of the candidates put the final grade and show it to teams inside the company, who already call him for a fit interview.

I believe that a great company should have great employees, so I’m quite immersed in the hiring process and do a lot of interviews of different types. Today was my birthday and I received a notification that I can now 5 Types of interviews with the company and here is their list:

  1. Engineering management Management interviews for engineering managers and directors
  2. System Design Interview with software development engineers and not only
  3. Troubleshooting Interview about work during the incident for SRE (site reliability engineers)
  4. Architecture & SDLC - interview about the candidate’s experience in designing complex systems, building architectural processes and improving engineering practices in teams. We give it to candidates applying for a high grade. (staff+) track of individual contributors (IC)
  5. System Design for Engineering Directors System design for high-level technical managers It's funny that I thought the fifth section would be Programming, where the candidate and I co-write code in a web IDE, solving an easy/medium algorithmic problem. But it just so happens that I’m just restoring my programming skills and I haven’t got stuck in this section yet, but the fork section of System Design happened and now we have a separate pool of interviewers for Engineering Directors. It is assumed that here candidates can come quite savvy and with them you can design something interesting.

By the way, I have already told a lot about all these sections in detail about each of them, here are links for those who are interested in finding out the details.

As a result, if you are not too big a company, then you should not complicate the hiring process. But if you've grown to a large scale, you have almost no choice and you change the process and start recruiting into the company rather than the team and typing through interviews consisting of several stages.

P.S. By the way, I do not give up and by the end of the year I plan to unlock for myself and interviews on programming:)
