Five team vices. Parables of Leadership (The Five Dysfunctions of a Team. A Leadership Fable)

This is an interesting book. 2002 Patrick Lencioni is a business novel and is aimed at leaders who want to make their team more efficient. But this is hampered by a number of factors, which the author counted as many as five pieces that line up in the pyramid.

  • Mutual mistrust
  • Fear of conflict
  • Irresponsibility.
  • Undemanding.
  • Indifference to the outcome n The novel itself begins with a conflict, where a successful high-tech company in the past begins to stall: collaboration is a thing of the past, now everyone is busy with their own affairs, the work is delayed, quality drops. The head of the company leaves his chair and he is replaced by Catherine, the protagonist of the novel, who is ready to take up the problem, but you need to understand their causes. In the first part of the book, Catherine and her team solve these questions, and in the second part, the author gives a detailed description of these “five team vices” and methods for eliminating them. The second part contains real practical tips to improve the work of your teams.

I found this book intersecting with other posts, about models that I had disassembled before.

  • Project Aristotle from Google (Google's Project Aristotle)Where the guys at Google studied the factors that make their teams successful (Psychological safety was a major factor.)
  • Google's Oxygen Project (Google’s Project Oxygen)Where the guys at Google looked at whether managers were useful and, if so, what makes a manager good.
  • Typology of organizational cultures from Ron Westrum. (A typology of organisational cultures)where the types of cultures were described

P.S. Next episode "Code of Leadership" podcast It will be dedicated to this book.
