How I Read Whitepapers Now: Marginal Notes and AI

I used to read whitepapers and discuss them with myself. It felt like playing both White and Black on a chessboard. Now I read whitepapers, leave notes in the margins, and then discuss them with Codex/Claude. The assistant sees not only the original text but also my annotations and is ready to challenge them. Honestly, studying research papers has become much more interesting.

By the way, I’ll be sharing brief summaries of research papers with my own marginal notes from now on—I mostly read them on a tablet these days. I used to print them on paper quite often; as a result, a 20 cm stack of printed research papers with my annotations from those deep dives remains in my office at T-Bank.
