While preparing to move, I started sorting through my books and clearing out my library. I came across a pile of books I’d already read, but lingered over Scott Page’s “The Model Thinker” (I reviewed it on my blog). I remember that his Coursera course of the same name was my first one, sometime around 2013-2014—I completed it, and riding that wave of enthusiasm, went on to finish 100+ semester-long courses on edX and Coursera over the next year and a half. The book is excellent in that respect too—it teaches you to use different mathematical models to solve real-world problems. And the author is a master at making that learning simple and engaging. I’ve always wanted to be able to explain complicated things simply myself, but the best I manage is explaining them in a complicated way:)
Anyway, I recommend this book to everyone, especially people who think mathematics is too abstract:)
