State of Developer Ecosystem 2025 JetBrains (Rubric #DevEx)

Finally got your hands on reading. report According to an annual survey by JetBrains. This annual report is on the list of things I’ve been tracking that provide interesting insights into developer productivity and the impact of AI on it. (right here told about). But if you go back to the JetBrains report itself, here are the highlights that I found interesting. (It is interesting to compare the results with last year’s report. here)

🤖 AI is the new norm 85Percent of developers regularly use AI tools (against ~80a year ago). 62% use at least one AI assistant for coding, although 15The percentage is still working without AI. 68The percentage of respondents expect that soon knowledge of AI will become a requirement of employers. Developers willingly trust neural networks routine tasks (For example, generation of template code, translation between languages, auto-documentation)Creative and complex tasks prefer to perform on their own. Among the main concerns associated with AI: inconsistent code quality, security and privacy risks, as well as the possible degradation of their own skills.

⚙️ Languages and technologies TypeScript continues to grow rapidly and, together with Rust and Go, is among the three most promising languages. 2025 year (into 2024 Instead of Go, Python was the leader.). Most developers want to learn Go and Rust as the next language. PHP, Ruby and Objective-C continue to lose popularity. Scala once again stands out as the language with the highest salaries: among developers with the highest revenues 38% use Scala, but only 2The majority of programmers call it their primary language.

📊 Productivity and DX In 2024Companies focus on technical performance metrics (assembly speed, deploy, recovery time, etc.)but 2025- The approach has shifted. Now attention is paid to the overall productivity of developers and the quality of their experience. (Developer Experience)Not only tools and processes are important, but also communication, transparency of goals, team feedback. 66Percentage of engineers do not believe that current KPIs reflect their actual contributions. The management still wants to reduce tech debt and improve cooperation, and developers appreciate clarity of tasks and constructive feedback - the success metrics have to be rethought.

Market and reality The perception of the labor market varies greatly: 57% of developers in Japan consider it favorable, while in Canada 66% talk about difficulties. It's harder for beginners. 61Percentage of junes rate the market as difficult (against 54percent).
