State of Platform Engineering Report 2023 Puppet
I recently read a report.State of DevOps Report" from Puppet, which in 2023 The year was devoted to the topic of platform engineering, which they came to instead of a survey about Devops in general. They even banned the term "DevOps team" because of its meaninglessness.
As for the report, they highlight the following: 4 In his executive summary
- Platform Engineering is a proven approach to achieving devops success on a corporate scale.
- When platform engineering is implemented well, it benefits the entire organization. (It is interesting that this can be said about a lot of well-implemented)
- Organizations recognize the benefits of developing platforms
- Organizations underinvest in product management skills in their platform teams
Next, the authors note the connection between devops success and platform engineering In 2018, we first identified that DevOps success within the enterprise required significant standardization on the way to providing self-service as part of our five stages evolutionary model. Platform engineering, with its prescriptive approach to organizational design and dynamics, is proving to be a viable path to delivering on this model.
The authors share a reference to the book Team Topologies, about which I once wrote a brief sammari in three parts: 1, 2, 3.

Finally, the authors say that platform engineering is a good thing, but it often lacks the products of managers and suggests that they think of their platforms as a product, not a project. By the way, I did. compare design and product management among themselves and recommended the use of product development more widely.
