SWE-agent: how the interface changes the result / Research Insights Made Simple #33 (Series #AI4SDLC)

In half an hour I’ll host a Research Insights livestream about the 2024 paper “SWE-agent: Agent-Computer Interfaces Enable Automated Software Engineering” from NeurIPS 2024. It asks what changes when the same language model gets a more usable interface for working with a repository. Instead of focusing only on models and prompts, we’ll look at the agent’s actions and the feedback it receives.

On the agenda: - Code search and file reading: how the agent finds what it needs and keeps its bearings. - Multiline edits and syntax checks: preventing errors and recovering from them. - Context management: what to show the model, what to shorten, and what to keep. - SWE-bench and SWE-bench Lite results: what SWE-agent is compared against and what the ablations show. - Lessons for modern agents: which principles are worth bringing into your system, and which settings belong to the 2024 experiment.
