Writing an engineering strategy

Interesting article Will Larson, author of An Elegant Puzzle (I’m talking about engineering management. told) Staff Engineer (About high-level SDEs, I have a review of this book in two parts: 1, 2). In this article, the author describes how to write an engineering strategy as an engineering executive, using the structure proposed by Richard Rumelt in his book Good Strategy, Bad Strategy. In this structure 3 components:

1. Diagnosis: Explaining the Challenge and the Root Problem We Solve
2. Guiding policies are approaches that should be followed to address challenges. These guidelines can be either explicit or implicit compromises. (tradeoffs) between options.
3. Coherent actions are a set of actions that are guided by principles to solve a challenge. This is the most important part of the strategy.
