[1/2] Last lecture. A Wise Book on the Power of Dreams (The Last Lecture)

This book Randy Pausha and Zaslow Jeffrey is dedicated to children’s dreams and their fulfillment. Randy was a famous professor at Carnegie Mellon University, who was engaged in virtual reality before everyone heard it. Around 20 Years ago, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and there were few chances of a cure. The university offered him a “last lecture,” a tradition for retired professors. Eventually, Randy agreed to give lectureBut he wasn't talking about science, he was talking about achieving your childhood dreams, or rather how to live your life so that your dreams become reality. The lecture itself. told earlier. But based on the lecture, Randy decided to write a book, with which he was helped by Zaslow Jeffrey, with whom Randy communicated during medical procedures and for the first time. 53 The mini-lecture dictated everything that went into the final book. The book consists of the following parts

• Last lecture. Backstory, where the author tells how he came up with the idea of the last lecture and how he prepared it, while trying to defeat the disease, but faced with metastases after surgery and chemotherapy, realizing that he would live less than a year
• Make your childhood dreams come true Stories about how each childhood dream was realized and how their very existence and desire for them helped Randy throughout his life.
• Adventures ... and lessons learned - very interesting stories about the lessons learned, I especially liked the story of the "Dutch uncle", which tells a bitter truth, but which can help change for the better. (Randy had a feedback from a professor he was an assistant about being too arrogant and it would keep him from achieving much.)
• Let other people make their dreams come true. The author describes how as a professor he worked with his students and helped them achieve their goals. For example, there was a story about Randy himself acting as a "Dutch uncle" to one of the students:) And for another student, he stood up and made sure that he was not expelled for poor results in matana, and this student brilliantly graduated from university and became Randy's right-hand man in research.
• How to live your own life This part contains some very cool tips on what principles to follow in your life, and I wrote about these principles. post
• And finally... The final part, in which Randy shares what he would like to say to his children. The main idea here is

I believe that parents should teach children to enjoy life and, most importantly, to pursue their dreams. The best thing we can do is help them achieve their goals. I wish my children to find their own way in life and to realize their dreams. And since I won't be there at this point, I want them to remember my words: Children, don't try to figure out who I wanted you to be. I want you to be who you want to be!
