1984. Graphic novel

I’ve read George Orwell’s novel a few times, but when Nesti Fido’s graphic version appeared, I decided to read it... and I didn’t miss it. Amazing illustrations perfectly convey the gloomy world of Oceania, or rather London. We see the life of the protagonist, Winston Smith, which takes place within the walls of the Ministry of Truth, where he is engaged in the falsification of historical documents that contain facts that contradict party propaganda. To do this, he elegantly uses newspeak and practices doublethink. The graphic novel follows the author’s palette and we see a black and white world, into which bright red color invades in places, highlighting those places that the author himself highlighted. In general, I liked this graphic novel - it correctly conveys the entire canvas and is very dynamic, which perhaps distinguishes it from a full-fledged book where we can delve deeper into the thoughts and feelings of the main characters. But the graphic performance allows the imagination to cling to the drawn pictures and to complete the pressing environment, and in the end feel how the main character goes crazy from torture and pressure.

P.S. Interestingly, even in the graphic novel we still have 2 lengthy text: Chapters from the book by Emmanuel Goldstein, who was once almost equal to Big Brother, but then betrayed the ideas of the party, fled abroad and became the number one enemy and leader of the Secret Brotherhood (It is believed that the prototype was Leon Trotsky.)
