A few years ago I read a book by Anthony Burgess.1985" As you can guess from the title, it is closely related to the famous book by George Orwell.1984In which George of the post-war 1948 He told a dystopia about the future. The first part of Anthony's book is devoted to controversy regarding the painting painted by his predecessor. And this picture looks like this: In the world1984left 3 Global military-political blocs that are engaged in continuous war. But this is not a war to win, but to maintain the status quo. Society consists of three circles: internal party, external and prola (proletarian). The party broadcasts on behalf of the mythical Big Brother, using Newspeak, which supports doublethink as a guarantee of successful existence in this world. There is also a management structure: Ministry of Peace responsible for the war The Ministry of Truth, which is responsible for propaganda The Ministry of Love, responsible for torture Anthony Burgess, who wrote the book in the 70s, broke it into 2 Parts. The whole first part consists of polemics about Orwell's world. 1984 years. And in the second, he paints a completely different picture of the neighbor. 1985 years. In his world the proletariat came to power, but the trade unions run everything. Trade unions are fighting their own state by striking. For example, the novel begins with a strike of firefighters, during which the wife of the protagonist is burned in the hospital, which simply no one to extinguish. The main character rebels against the coercive regime and leaves the trade union, and then becomes virtually nobody and slides to the bottom as an antisocial element. I won’t reveal any more, but I’ll share a few quotes that I liked:
