Confessions of an Enterprise Architect • Scott Shaw • YOW! 2016
Speech About enterprise architecture seven years ago, which was published today on the channel GOTO Conferences. Why would I remember him now? And the answer is simple - just this week, we at the ArchDays conference program committee discussed topics for the fifth annual ArchDays conference. 2023. During the discussion, we recalled the request of visitors to the previous conference about reports on enterprise architecture. I myself consider this theme in its canonical form a vestigial from the past ... which partly confirms this report from seven years ago. Scott Shaw Humorously and in a repentance format, he speaks about topics.
- Admitting "Architect" is a thing
- Requiring documentation
- Governance
- Command and control
- Preferring COTS packages
And then he finalizes his story about the approach to entrerprise architecture in 21 century, which should follow the following principles, where elements highlighted in bold are preferred over those highlighted in italics
- While we need ... -> Our preferred approach is ...
- Architecture -> Technical leadership
- Traceability -> Architecture decision records
- Strategically-aligned decisions -> Principles, influence, transparency
- Direction -> Empowerment and accountability
- Off-the-shelf software -> Small, incremental investmens
In general, this is a good report, which has not lost its relevance so far:)
