Scientific communication. Guide for scientific press secretaries and journalists (Handbook for Science Public Information Officers)

I read this book over the weekend and was interested in the connection between the work of a science press secretary and a devrel specialist, or rather the similarity of their working methods: a science press secretary connects journalists and scientists. Journalists need to tell him in simple words what the scientist has succeeded in and what effect his work has had. He needs to prepare scientists to communicate with journalists and explain that it is necessary to communicate not in scientific jargon, but in simple and understandable terms:) The spokesperson writes press releases and blog posts, where he talks about the achievements of scientists, giving links to their articles and speeches at conferences.

Interestingly, this book was written by Matthew Shipman, who first worked as a journalist and then became a press secretary, so his commandments of the scientific press secretary see this dualism and desire for cooperative work of these specialists. These are the commandments. Don’t overstate the importance of the results.
