Flowers for Algernon (Flowers for Algernon)

This is the story of Daniel Keyes, who grew up to a full-fledged novel I remember quite often when I am sick. (This is something I rarely do.). This is the first time I read this book of years. 6 backwards 2018 year (And a few years ago, wrote about him on this channel). Here's a quick extract from this sammari.

The format of the presentation in the form of a diary of the main character, whose name is Charlie, allows you to look at the changes in perception from his position. At the very beginning of the story, Charlie appears to us mentally retarded, responsibly doing his job and wanting to become smart. Charlie diligently learns to write and read at night school, where he is found by a pair of scientists who need a subject. Charlie agrees to an experiment that should boost his intelligence and he hopes it will make him happier. It turns out that a successful experiment brings him the expected increase in intelligence, but he still finds himself detached from society ... just now on the other tail of the Gaussian curve ... As a result, this change turns out to be temporary and, as time runs out, there is a regression ... first in Algernon, a white laborate mouse and Charlie's only real friend, and then in Charlie himself. Then I went snowboarding unsuccessfully and after that I was in the hospital for a week with a brain injury. Then I went back to work and realized that after a few hours of mental work, my effectiveness was dramatically reduced by the increase in intracranial pressure ... and you can see that you are getting stupider. Fortunately for a few months, the post-effects faded, and in the second half. 2018 The year I started speaking at conferences and went back to writing posts, but in Medium.
