Where fantastic ideas live (The Idea. The Seven Elements of a Viable Story for Screen, Stage or Fiction)
A couple of years ago, I read Eric Bork's book Where Fantastic Ideas Live, which is about writing and writing. And this week she was advised as part of a book writing course:) The point is that in this book, Eric Bork, winner of 2 Emmys and 2 Golden Globe Awards, explains why the idea is so important and shows what seven criteria a cool idea should meet, highlighting the discussion of each characteristic in a separate chapter:
- The problem is complex.
- recognizable problem
- original problem
- plausible problem
- fateful problem
- fascinating problem
- the problem is meaningful And finally, the author in the final chapter tells about the combinatorial way of generating ideas like children’s toys, where the character’s face is collected from different variants of hair, eyes, nose, mouth, neck, etc. (Or adult toys, when a criminal’s sketch is also generated.). So you can try to collect an idea for the plot, going through the characteristic moments:) The book is simple and easy to read:) You can reuse the thoughts from this book when generating topics for conferences or writing your book:)
