Charisma. How to Influence, Persuade and Inspire (The Charisma Myth: How Anyone Can Master the Art and Science of Personal Magnetism)
I've been reading Charisma a long time ago. “How to Influence, Persuade and Inspire” by Olivia Fox Cabane and I can say that I liked the book because it dispels the myth that charisma is something innate. (In Greek charisma is a gift from the gods.). According to the author, charisma trains like other skills, so she suggests correcting behavior and training them. This will make you feel more charismatic first, and then become more like this:) Charisma is divided into three manifestations: presence, strength and warmth, which are manifested through body language and are usually beyond the conscious control of the person. It is important for the leader to be in the right state, for example, not to be overwhelmed or distracted from what is happening - otherwise it is difficult to demonstrate presence and pay attention to what is happening around. The author gives ways to deal with discomfort that disrupts the internal state and prevents you from being charismatic, and also talks about the importance of introducing yourself into psycho-emotional states to demonstrate warmth and presence.
Further, the author classifies charisma by types:
- Focused charisma – the presence and perception of the interlocutor, the feeling that the person was heard and understood
- Inspirational charisma – bold vision and absolute conviction
- Benevolent charisma - warmth and approval
- Powerful charisma - authority and status
These styles of charisma can be combined, alternated or demonstrated in a pure form. The main thing is to understand what is required and when. The following are important moments of charisma:
- First impressions. speech and perception body language
- difficult situations
- presentation Charisma in critical situations
- charisma in life
In general, the book was interesting and allowed me to look at my own behavior from a different angle.
