Code of Leadership S2E15: The Last 90 Days at a Company Start Before You Give Notice (#Management)

People often talk about the first 90 days in a new role. I wanted to examine the other side of the transition—the last 90 days at a company. On August 31 at 17:00, I will host a solo Code of Leadership live stream covering not only resignation but all three equally valid outcomes: staying in a redesigned role, moving within the company, or leaving.

We will discuss how not to make a career decision after one bad week; how to understand what exactly stopped working; how to describe the next role through responsibility rather than a job title; how to test internal opportunities and the external market; how to choose an outcome and hand over ownership so the old role no longer depends on your invisible presence.

I will also examine an important point for managers: a document is not the same as transferred knowledge. First, the new owner needs the right to make decisions; then context, relationships, operating rhythms, and access. And they need a chance to start leading before your final day.

My central thesis is this: the last 90 days are not a countdown to resignation. They are a managed transition between two professional chapters (if the new destination has already been chosen).
