Today I decided to remember how I read the books “We” Zamyatin and “Noon” Strugatsky.
Today I decided to remember how I read the books. We"Crazy and "Noon.Strugatsky. At the time, I was interested in comparing the authors’ fantasies about the future, which were completely opposite. However, if you look from today, one of the books seems to be quite a real development, and the other seems to be a good fairy tale, which is told to children to calm them down and put them to bed.
I will quote from the book "We", written more than a hundred years ago and which seems to me remarkable: "Tomorrow is the day of the annual election of the Benefactor." Tomorrow we will once again give the Benefactor the keys to the unshakable stronghold of our happiness. Of course, this is not like the disorderly, unorganized elections of the ancients, when - it is ridiculous to say - even the very result of the elections was unknown in advance. To build a state on completely unaccountable accidents, blindly - what could be more senseless? And yet, it turns out, it took centuries to understand this. Needless to say, here, as in everything, there is no room for any accidents, no surprises. And the elections themselves have a rather symbolic meaning: to remind us that we are one, powerful, million-celled organism, that we are - in the words of the "Gospel" of the ancients - one Church. For the history of the One State knows no case in which, on this solemn day, even one voice dared to break the majestic unison.
