Sid Meyer: Life in the world of computer games (Sid Meier's Memoir! A Life in Computer Games)

Sid Meyer's memoir is a tipper:) It's very interesting to read the story of who invented Civilization, which I never got to play:)

From the book you can find out. What the Early Computer Games Market Looked Like How Syd’s approach to creating games changed – if the early games were focused on new technical capabilities, then the games received an increasingly developed lore and a set of complex mechanics, which provided balance in the game and interesting gameplay. How Sid's studio became successful not only through cool games, but also through marketing and sales (They were in charge of his partner Bill, with whom he created a studio.) That on the way Sid had not only successes, but also failures, and also that at the beginning of his career he did not hesitate to copy ... but then became great and then it ceased to apply to him or as Steve Jobs said about Picasso, ascribing to him the phrase

Good artists copy, great artists steal.

A year and a half ago I read this book in one breath. I loved his ironic way of describing his life. Although I haven’t played Sid’s game, I was fascinated by his description of how he made decisions as a game designer. This is similar to the work of architects:)

P.S. In post About the book about the creation of the Prince of Persia, I mentioned a bunch of interesting books about games + in the comments I was advised to read this memoir of Sid, which I have already read, but forgot to mention here - this post corrected this omission:) By the way, the book itself. The Making of Prince of PersiaI've already read it. written earlier
