Questions to assess the realistic visionary strategy (Category Strategy)
In the past. post I was talking about Theranos and Elizabeth Hzolms' approach to strategy. There, I listed a list of different points of view that are worth looking at to try to distinguish the real strategy from the fake one, and in this post I will explain them in more detail.
1) Clear and realistic vision This strategy: Presents a clear, inspiring and achievable vision that aligns with the mission and values of the organization. Goals are specific, measurable and feasible. Signs of fraud: Too vague or grandiose statements with no realistic plan or feasibility. The promise of incredible results with minimal effort is a worrying sign. 2) Detailed implementation plan
- This strategy: Includes specific steps, resource allocation, checkpoints and contingency plans to achieve goals.
- Signs of fraud: Lack of specific details about how goals will be achieved, or excessive use of buzzwords and abstract concepts without a clear plan of action. 3) Stakeholder participation
- This strategy: Actively engages team members and stakeholders in the planning and decision-making process, promoting collaboration and transparency.
- Signs of fraud: Acts in isolation or in secrecy, preventing the participation of others. Fraudsters often use urgency to avoid scrutiny. 4) Emotional attractiveness vs. Manipulation
- This strategy: Inspiring through sincere communication, emotional intelligence and alignment with shared values.
- Signs of fraud: Uses pressure tactics, fear or excessive arousal to induce impulsive actions without proper evaluation. 5) Compliance with long-term objectives
- This strategy: Considers current priorities in conjunction with long-term goals and demonstrates adaptability to changing circumstances.
- Signs of fraud: It focuses on short-term gains or unrealistic promises without considering long-term sustainability. 6) Transparency and trust
- This strategy: Builds trust through open communication, verifiable assertions, and reliable guidance.
- Signs of fraud: Uses overly complex structures to conceal intentions or avoids providing verifiable information about the organization or management. 7) Realism of the promised results
- This strategy: Sets achievable goals backed by data, market analysis and realistic forecasts.
- Signs of fraud: Makes exaggerated claims about guaranteed success or earnings that sound too good to be true.
The more red flags pop up when analyzing visionary strategy, the less likely it is to be a real possibility rather than a scam:)
