What we discussed on the recording

Dmitry Anoshin is a data engineer, author, and educator. He trained as a mechanical design engineer and spent three years at the Khrunichev rocket plant, but limited career prospects pushed him toward technology. A three-month unpaid internship introduced him to business intelligence and data.

Dmitry chose the individual-contributor path: understand the business problem, then build something useful. Nearly five years at Amazon taught him product thinking and a shared language of leadership principles, but did not bring the expected promotion. The gap between effort and his imagined career trajectory eventually caused burnout.

A Snowflake and Tableau workshop led to a Telegram channel, then programs for people entering data work or searching for a job in a new country. Teaching helps Dmitry understand each subject more deeply. The discussion moves from statistics and product data to corporate AI assistants and developer effectiveness.

Another thread covers technical books: pitching a proposal, splitting chapters, and racing against product releases. Dmitry now prefers a connected video curriculum to another quickly outdated title. Its premise is broad engineering literacy: command-line tools, containers, databases, documentation, and reading neighboring systems' source code.
