Recently. I was talking about Octoverse. 2025 GitHubI’m interested in looking at trends over the past three years. (ChatGPT of the moment). It seems like enough time to see changes in development processes, tool popularity, engineering productivity, and whatever else. So today we will look at trends from yearly reports.

The growth of the GitHub community and the scope of development Over the past three years, the community has grown rapidly:

  • In the beginning. 2023 The number of registered developers on GitHub has exceeded 100 millions (growth26year-on-year)
  • In 2024 The pace has accelerated over the past year, and the platform has reached 36 Million new users (mainly due to the countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America) By October. 2025 The total number of developers has exceeded 180 This is the fastest absolute growth in GitHub’s history. Repositories and Commites Along with the community, the volume of code developed has increased dramatically:
