Think like a mathematician. How to solve any problem faster and more efficiently (A Mind For Numbers: How to Excel at Math and Science) (Rubric #SelfDevelopment)

Today I decided to read the book Think Like a Mathematician. How to solve any problem faster and more efficiently by Barbara Oakley The book is written in simple language and is devoted to the topical topic of education in general and the study of technical sciences in particular. Information is provided in small portions that contribute to its assimilation and transformation from working memory to long-term memory. At the same time, the author uses the techniques of interval repetition aka "repetition is the mother of teaching" and at the end of each chapter, the reader is invited to think a little and remember the main thoughts touched upon on his own. Much attention is paid to focusing and distracted thinking, as well as the impact of procrastination on outcomes. Interestingly, Barbara doesn't just suggest certain techniques that should help, but she also explains why it should work, and gives explanations in terms of how our brains work.

In total, the book is cool to use as a textbook on the subject "How to learn correctly" and this title could be put in the title of the entire book. In the last chapter of the book, all that has been said is summarized. 10 Ways to follow in the process of mastering the material to succeed in the exam:

  1. Try to remember
  2. Test yourself.
  3. When solving problems, create portions of information
  4. Follow the correct repetition mode of the material
  5. Apply different approaches, practicing in solving problems
  6. Take breaks
  7. Explain the material to the imaginary interlocutor and use simple analogies
  8. Concentrate
  9. Eat the frogs first.
  10. Remember your dream. ... Well, before the exam itself, it is recommended to sleep well, because otherwise it may not work out despite any preliminary preparation.

P.S. That's a good book, but the English title of "A Mind for Numbers: How to Excel at Math and Science" is a little closer to the point than the translation.)
