Here's my recording. speech conference Teamlead++ In the track of techlids about the emergence of research and development in large companies. In this report, I looked at the examples of Google, Amazon, Yandex and Tinkoff. First, I showed you how the company grew and how the business model worked. (It was often a platform model with a two-way network effect.)And then he concluded that this exponential growth required a lot of technical challenges. And different companies approached these technical challenges differently. Google has wrapped many of the problems in whitepaper, which has given rise to many open-source projects. Amazon rather made technical products for itself, and then began to sell them in AWS, and the articles were not about the internal device, but about how to use these products. Yandex often talked about its decisions, but there were almost no details. 2016 Appeared in open source ClickHouse, in 2017 - CatBoost. 2022 and 2023 There have been a lot of publications, among which the most interesting are YDB and Ytsauru, and this is if we talk only about the official open source from Yandex:)

At Tinkoff, we started with boxed products, and then we started writing a lot of our code for a year. 4 The development of your IDP started. (internal developer platform) And a bunch of technology products: Managed K8s - Target runtime for low-latency applications LBaaS is a balancer as a service that brings traffic to applications inside Managed K8s

  • DBaaS (Postgres, Cassandra, Redis) - target databases Kafka as a Service - a platform for messaging Sage is our obsesrvabilty platform. (logs, metrics, allerts) with its own Mage language and plan to move from Elastic to a newly created database Statist and a/b platform - a common solution for product analytics and a/b tests There are a lot of tools inside our data platform.
  • and so on.

And now we have an RnD lab for engineering research, which is headed by Stanislav Moiseev, and it is located in our platform of basic technologies, which is led by Igor Maslov, Director of this platform and VP. In general, for us, the development of RnD is strategic and if you want to engage in engineering research, you can write to me personally, and I will introduce you to Stas and Igor:)

P.S. On next Monday, 18.00 on Stream Code of Arcitecture We will talk about the approaches to RnD at Google and tell you how we plan to do it at Tinkoff. On the stream, we will discuss this with Vova Chistyakov, Igor Maslov and Stanislav Moiseev.

P.P.S. Submission to the report
