Tonight, at our Code of Architecture book club, we will continue our discussion of the book Software Architecture: The Hard Parts. The eighth and ninth chapters are called “Reuse Patterns” and “Data Ownership and Distributed Transactions.” In the first of these two chapters, we will explore four replication options: Code replication, Shared library, Shared service, and the relatively new Sidecars. For each of them, we will look at the advantages and disadvantages, and finally talk about the aspects that must be considered when planning reuse. In the second chapter, we will talk about how to determine which service should own data and consider three options: Single Ownership Scenario, Common Ownership Scenario and the most interesting one - Joint Ownership Scenario. Next, we will look at distributed transactions, think about ACID and BASE, and look at patterns for maintaining Eventual Consistency.
